Langley Thunder opens the Langley Event Centre with a BANG
May 27, 2009

Western Lacrosse Association’s first game at the Langley Events Centre was a good one.

The Fans were treated to the first big screen utilization in the WLA.  Many people were checking out all the Langley Event Centre has to offer http://www.langleyeventscentre.com

The teams were moving fast from the start – almost 8 minutes before the first stop in play, then Ian Poole scoring his first goal as a Thunder on a breakout.

The next 10 minutes saw Langley peppering the Coquitlam net with 19 shots.  Many were great scoring chances.  But it was Rookie Joe Vetere hustling for a loosie and splitting two defenders scoring his 2nd short-handed goal of the season.
The crowd saw why everybody is excited about the arrival of Langley resident Garrett Billings scoring a beauty goal on a Mike Grimes set-up.

Coquitlam took an early lead in the 2nd period, but tying it up was 5-year Thunder player Kyle McEwen scoring one of the most EXCITING goals in Thunder history (check the media area for the video http://thunderlax.com/media.html - should be available by June 1st).

The other Langley resident (1st round draft pick) Kyle Belton showed his laser shot on the Power Play.
Rob Van Beek rounded out the Thunder scoring on a two-on-one with Ian Poole.

The game saw some rough stuff – two fights
Thunder player Kyle McEwen (the big Viking) vs. Jameson Whitehead.
Thunder player Steve Hay – soundly defeated Coquitlam new guy Luke Forget.
